Q&A #2 with Peter, Jim Byrnes, Elizabeth Gracen & Stan Kirsch

A second Q&A panel was held a couple of hours later to accommodate all the fans. Partway through the panel, Adrian Paul arrived and joined the rest on the stage. He sat behind the other four, letting everyone know that he was just there to watch, not to answer questions and steal the limelight from his co-stars.

Panel notes by Carmel Macpherson. Notes in square brackets are mine.

"And this is my imitation of Joe Dawson..."

What acting part would you like to play? (photo by Sharon Lowachee)

PW: He said he would choose to play Joe Dawson, with the attendant perks of being surrounded by alcohol.

EG: "A cat..." Maybe Amanda's numerous flirtations with crime and burglaries are rubbing off on Elizabeth — or maybe she was remembering that cute little cat that caused so much mischief when she and Methos tried to steal the Methuselah Stone.

SK: "Butch Cassidy!" Stan said that he was attracted to playing a "flawed hero" instead of someone like Richie who was just "flawed."

JB: "King Lear."

Have you always wanted to act? (photo by Sharon Lowachee)

JB: Always — from the time he was about three years of age. He said that he could even recall walking around imitating Jimmy Durante.

SK: Had originally wanted to be a politician or a lawyer but ended up pounding the pavement in New York, doing commercials, etc. to try and get into the industry.

"Khaki... khaki... khaki.... stop making fun of me!"

PW: Had intended to be a doctor. He told a funny story of being a children's entertainer, in various costumes, one of which was "khaki," which I vaguely recall referred to a safari outfit. Anyway, Peter's pronunciation of "khaki" ["car key"] — and "schedule" at the previous Q&A — set him up for a great deal of ribbing. Stan and Jim pretended not to recognize "khaki," and made him say it over and over while they imitated him in an exaggerated way. At one point Jim said [paraphrase], "You're in America — and there was a revolution."

What's happening with season six?

Peter spoke about still being in negotiations with The Powers That Be. He believes that Methos has now become an important enough character to merit more exposure in credits, etc. and should generally have more parity with the other characters and that The Powers That Be "haven't spoken to me since," to which Stan retorted, "I know how that feels!" Peter went on to say that he was available and wanted to do episodes in season six.

Wanting JB to talk dirty?

The questioner wanted Jim to say something in a certain way which left him (and most of us) somewhat confused until Stan enlightened us all by laughingly telling Jim, "She want's you to talk dirty!" Jim was quite open to suggestions from questioners that Joe be given a love interest. "We want to see Joe Dawson in the sack!" Peter said, "What's the address?"

Adrian sans ponytail

Stan had his quip regarding Jim's obtuseness turned back on him by Adrian later on when he seemed a bit confused by a questioner and Adrian enlightened him by saying, "She's flirting with you, Stan!"

Peter said he had been trying to get him to cut it for years. Someone presented Elizabeth with a mock ponytail for Adrian, which she tied around his neck — or at least tried to, amidst much laughter.

"Fig leaf? You should see me in tinsel at Christmas."

[A fan presented Peter with the crown of Dionysus (Greek god of wine and merriment) for which he duly came forward, received, and modeled for us after asking if it came with a fig leaf!]

How has Richie developed as a character?

Stan said that he found Richie very disjointed as a character, that he'd fought with the writers about it, and that Adrian had been very helpful in terms of trying to help him get some better continuity into the character development. "Richie's the guy who makes mistakes so Duncan MacLeod can save the day." But he wasn't complaining when he said this — if anything, he was reminding us of who and what the show is primarily about.

What's going to happen with the Watchers?

Jim said that they will resurface as "active cells." There will be conflict and restructuring will continue. Horton will reappear.

What changed Methos?

Peter said that Methos was still a heathen underneath, he just covers it better these days! He also said that he really enjoys having such a large span of time between the Bronze Age flashback and the present because it gives him so much to work with in terms of character development.

"I said I'm FILMING drag queens, not that I am one!"

What are you working on now? (photo by Dianne Smith)

SK: Would like to do stage work in New York and LA.

EG: She is finishing an Art History degree and a documentary on drag queens in Arkansas.

JB: He is rereleasing the first album in 3-6 moths.

What type of bike does Richie have?

Stan had difficulty remembering what type of bike Richie has but said it was a piece of shit and that he wants a Harley!

What's with Richie's quickenings?

Adrian and Peter in particular really got stuck into Stan on this (in a very funny way) and egged him on to do a quickening which he did, to everyone's delight — he stood up on the table and shook for at least 30 seconds. I don't think they could believe he did it!

How's Adrian/Duncan as a kisser?

As Elizabeth pondered, Adrian leapt towards her and swept her into his arms and appeared to kiss her passionately, to which Elizabeth retorted that he "was okay" with a twinkle in her eye.
