A violent scene in last night's Archers on Radio 4 caused a stir.
Fans heard the landlord Simon Pemberton attack Debbie Aldridge.
She called him a "bastard" and he dubbed her a "bitch"
after she refused to talk about their relationship and declined
to go to bed with him. They grappled after Simon (played by Peter
Wingfield) called her a fool for wanting to spend her life in
Ambridge. Three callers complained about gratuitous violence, but
some congratulated the Archers editor Vanessa Whitburn on
the scene.
