Peter Wingfield plays Simon Ross, the no-nonsense new Inspector
Cold Squad, the acclaimed drama series from KEATLEY MACLEOD
Productions and ATLANTIS FILMS.
"Ross is brought in to clean things up," says Wingfield, who was
born in Cardiff, Wales. "He's asked to get a few sacrificial lambs
cleaned out of the department, to get these issues out in the open
and help put everything behind them. He's also a kind of a spin
doctor, the public face of the department."
Wingfield trained as a doctor at Brasenose College, Oxford, before
settling into an acting career. He starred in several English TV
series, including Crocodile Shoes, Medics and The
Men's Room. His stage credits include two plays by Pirandello:
Six Characters in Search of an Author, and The Rules of the
Game. Wingfield says stage work is "incredibly demanding, very
tough." And while he misses the tension and fear of performing live,
his preference has always been for film work. "You can be much more
subtle in front of the camera."
Wingfield may be best known for his dual role as Adam Pierson/Methos
on Highlander: The Series. What started out as four days'
work in France marked the turning point in his career as an actor.
"The whole premise of it is just so bizarre," he says of the sword
and sorcery epic. "But some of the best work I've done in my life
has been on that show." And the fans are completely devoted, as
he discovered while attending a recent Highlander convention
in Anaheim, California. "Three-and-a-half thousand people," he says.
"Some traveling thousands of miles to buy artifacts and autographs.
And I kept nothing from that show!"
A former national trampoline champion and pole vaulter back in
Wales, Wingfield keeps fit these days by running. "I try to get
out every day, and enter at least one marathon a year," he says,
setting his sights on the Seattle Marathon in the fall.
